CHICO, Calif. – California is now the first state with an 11 percent tax on gun and ammunition sales. It took effect yesterday. The director of Down Range told Action News Now the new tax is to limit concealed weapons in public. The 11 percent tax is on top of the current 8.75 sales tax rate in Chico plus an 11 percent federal tax already in place. That’s almost a 30 percent tax now.
