Person found dead in Modesto home that caught fire, officials say

(FOX40.COM) — A person was found dead inside a home in Modesto on Thursday morning after the city’s fire department extinguished a fire that spread from one home to another.

The Modesto Fire Department said on Facebook around 2:30 p.m. that the incident occurred on Concord Avenue, about a half-mile northwest of Roosevelt Park.

“First arriving firefighters encountered heavy fire and black smoke engulfing a residence, with flames spreading to a neighboring house,” the fire department said. “A second alarm was requested, bringing a total of seven engines, two trucks, two battalion chiefs, the Deputy Chief of Operations, and the Fire Chief to the scene.”

Firefighters said they were able to successfully prevent the fire’s spread but found one person dead inside one of the homes. “We extend our deepest condolences to the affected family,” the agency said.
