Small plane takes off in Concord, crashes in Tracy

TRACY, Calif. ( KRON ) — A small private plane took off from a Bay Area airport and crashed Friday morning as it was approaching an airport near the border of Alameda and San Joaquin counties.

The single-engine Cessna 150 crashed near Tracy Municipal Airport in Tracy, around 9:20 a.m., according to Federal Aviation Administration officials.

A pilot was the only person on board the aircraft when it went down.

The plane took off from Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

The plane’s registration number is N19441, an FAA spokesperson told KRON4. The spokesperson did not immediately release the pilot’s name. Brendan Mannix is listed as the plane’s registered owner under the FAA’s database.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the pilot managed to escape from the plane without injuries. Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
