A Nissan Maxima crashed into an embankment near the intersection of Freshwater Road and Myrtle Avenue just before 11 a.m. today, according to scanner traffic. Our reporter Ryan Hutson at the scene was told by the California Highway Patrol that the driver of the vehicle fell asleep at the wheel. No injuries were reported, but a mailbox was damaged in the crash.
