James Austin died following a crash on Peltier Road east of Pearl Road between a 2007 Toyota Camry and his 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle Monday evening.

The California Highway Patrol said the Toyota was traveling west on Peltier Road east of Pearl Road at about 7:40 p.m. Monday when its 40-year-old driver slowed down to make a left turn into a private driveway on the south side of the roadway.

Austin was traveling west and approached the Toyota. Witnesses alleged that the motorcycle was traveling more than 100 mph, according to the CHP.

The CHP said as the Toyota driver made his left turn, Austin started to pass across broken yellow lines using the eastbound traffic lane. The front of the motorcycle impacted the rear of the Toyota, causing the car to rotate and come to a rest in a driveway on the south shoulder of Peltier Road.
