Stockton: Felon In Possession Of Ammo Gets Over 4 Years In Federal Prison

Bay City News

A felon in Stockton was given over four years in federal prison for being in possession of ammunition as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaboration between local and federal law enforcement, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

Sophondara Hun, 28, was sentenced on Aug. 8 to three years and four months in federal prison after he was caught prowling in an apartment complex.

According to prosecutors, officers responded to the apartments after a caller reported a man inside her unit who had possibly entered through a window. Police saw the open window and then saw Hun sleeping in a bed in the apartment.

A search of Hun revealed four .22 caliber bullets. As a felon, he is prohibited from possessing weapons or ammunition.

Prosecutors said Hun has multiple state felony convictions, including assault on a person with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon with force/possible great bodily injury, vandalism and evading law enforcement in a vehicle.

The case against Hun was a product of the Stockton Police Department, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
