Stockton man convicted in 2018 Lathrop deadly shooting

(FOX40.COM) — More than six years after killing a man in Lathrop while holding a household at gunpoint, a Stockton man is now facing sentencing, according to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.

On April 15, 2018, then 17-year-old Francisco Menesses entered a home in Lathrop and held four adults at gunpoint, while two children hid in another room.

Robert Archuleta was one of the adults held at gunpoint and when he attempted to flee from the home, Menesses chased him down and shot him. The gunshot would kill Archuleta.

Menesses then stole a vehicle from the home and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase along Interstate 5. The chase would end in a multi-car collision.

Law enforcement captured Menesses after he attempted to flee on foot and later forensic evidence identified the then 17-year-old as the shooter.

Now 23 years old, Menesses was transferred from juvenile court to adult court after the case’s initial prosecutor San Joaquin District Attorney Ron Freitas argued for the change.
