Despite trailing in the final minutes, the Ceres Bulldogs pulled off a thrilling comeback to defeat the Johansen Vikings 25-20 on Friday night, securing their first Western Athletic Conference win.
The Bulldogs victory was led by senior standout tight end/linebacker Daniel Davis, who dominated on both sides of the ball with a touchdown and two game-saving interceptions.
“Oh man, he had a game,” said senior captain wide receiver/defensive back Reis Smith on Davis’ performance. “He steps up in time of need in any sport, baseball, track, anything.”
Besides his stellar performance on defense, Davis hauled in all of his seven targets for 85 yards and a touchdown on offense.
Davis’ receiving touchdown opened up the game’s scoring. He caught a 4-yard pass from senior quarterback Kyle Phongsa Chhoeum for a touchdown on the first drive of the game with a little over three minutes left in the first quarter.
With his team up 19-14 late in the third quarter, Davis intercepted a tipped pass on Ceres’ 1-yard line from Johansen junior quarterback Anthony Torres.
