Manhunt underway for attempted murder suspect on the loose in San Joaquin County

(FOX40.COM) — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s is in search of a murder suspect who reportedly fled after a traffic stop on Monday.

Around 8:30 p.m., SJSO said it initiated a ‘high-risk traffic stop’ on a suspect wanted for attempted homicide in Calaveras County. After the suspect refused to pull over, deputies said they were led on a pursuit. The vehicle chase began near I-5 and Ben Holt Drive and continued through the Highway 26 exit and the area of Fairchild Road. The suspect and a passenger fled on foot into a nearby orchard.

Deputies said the passenger was captured and arrested, however, the primary suspect remains at large. A search perimeter has been set up at Fairchild and Beecher Road. As of 9:30 p.m., the suspect is still on the loose. Law enforcement advised residents to “stay alert and avoid the area if possible until further notice.”
