Stockton council approves 10% raise for City Attorney Lori Asuncion

Stockton City Attorney Lori Asuncion will receive a 10% raise that places her salary among the highest at City Hall.

After a positive performance evaluation, the Stockton City Council unanimously voted to raise Asuncion’s pay from $289,224 to $318,146 at its Tuesday, Oct. 1 meeting. The raise took effect immediately.

In addition, a $7,000 budget has been created for Asuncion’s professional development, including advanced legal certifications, attendance at conferences, and membership in professional organizations.

District 1 Councilmember Michele Padilla was the lone councilmember to make a comment before the vote. She praised Asuncion for her “outstanding dedication to the city of Stockton.”

“She consistently goes above and beyond to expedite the cases for (the) city of Stockton, and always is mindful of our city budget,” Padilla said.

In fiscal year 2023, the city had 87 employees whose compensation, which includes total pay and benefits, was more than $300,000. Almost all were public safety personnel. Rounding out the list of the highest compensated were the city manager, city attorney, public works director, and two deputy city manager positions, according to Transparent California , an online database of public employee salaries in the state.
