The Modesto Police Department has taken a poignant step forward in its response to crisis situations involving individuals with autism. On a recent call, a woman in crisis and her young child, living in conditions deemed unsafe, catalyzed the first deployment of the department’s newly introduced Carter Kits. These kits, equipped with sensory tools designed to soothe those on the Autism Spectrum, were used to provide comfort to the child amidst the turmoil.
