The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters is continuing efforts to count ballots cast in the 2024 general election.
Registrar of Voters Olivia Hale said there had been an increase in voter participation, with some of San Joaquin County’s ballot boxes overflowing on Election Day.
“They were just very full. Tracy City Hall had a line at their dropbox and we had our staff actually out there, emptying the box as people were still lining up to put their ballot in the box,” Hale said on Tuesday night. “Many of the city clerks were calling and they just had lots and lots of ballots, so we deployed staff right away and emptied the boxes, and went after it again.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Hale said there were 378,657 voters registered this election, compared to November 2020 when there were 365,839 registered voters.
In 2020, there were more than 290,000 ballots counted with an 80.6% voter turnout.
By midnight Wednesday, Nov. 6, the elections office had counted 153,496 (40.5%) out of 378,657 registered voters according to its website.
