Police have virtually no leads for a hit-and-run that happened in the early morning hours Sunday on Highway 99, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 3 a.m., CHP officers received a call about a man lying on the east shoulder of the highway just north of Kansas Avenue near downtown Modesto.
When they arrived, they found Stockton resident Jimmy Martin, 27, dead.
“There were no associated vehicle(s) located at the scene at the time of CHP arrival,” read a CHP release. “The vehicle in question should have front-end collision damage.”
The release stated that CHP believes the vehicle, described as a sedan, is black in color. That’s based on a witness who saw the collision, according to Officer Thomas Olsen. There were no additional details provided as of Monday morning.
CHP asked anyone with information regarding the collision to contact CHP’s Merced Communication Center at 209-356-2900 or Detective Aaron Norseen at 209-545-7440.
