A man was killed in a shooting near University of the Pacific in Stockton, police said.
The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday near the 1600 block of Princeton Avenue, according to the Stockton Police Department.
Officers who responded to a call about the shooting found a man in his 50s suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released, pending notification of family by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police have not shared any information about a potential motive or suspect, but said the case remains under active investigation.
The man’s death marks the 47th homicide of the year in Stockton, according to Officer David Scott, a spokesperson for the Stockton Police Department. At this time last year, there were 43 homicides, Scott said.
