Vigil Wednesday night to support family, people grieving multiple fatal car crash in Turlock

A candlelight vigil in honor of the Lourenco family will be held Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, at Pitman High School as the Turlock community is shaken by a horrific accident.

Tragedy struck Sunday morning when a two-car collision on Lander Avenue claimed the lives of Daniel Lourenco, 44, Jennifer Lourenco, 45, and their 16-year-old daughter, Madelyn. Two other Lourenco family members, 19-year-old daughter Emma and 14-year-old son Matthew, remain hospitalized.

Uriel Guizar-Negrete, the 22-year-old driver of the other vehicle, also was killed.

The Pitman FFA is holding the candlelight vigil to support the family and those who are grieving. Emma Lourenco was involved with the Pitman FFA and the Lourencos are considered part of the Pitman High family. The gathering at the flagpole near the high school office will begin at 7:15 p.m., according to social media posts.

Daniel Lourenco was an employee of the Turlock Irrigation District for seven years in water and energy systems management. Jennifer Lourenco was a special education teacher at Sinclear Elementary School in Ceres and the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2023-24.
