Stockton police arrest suspect in February 2023 homicide case

STOCKTON, California — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a February 2023 homicide that left one man dead and three others injured, according to the Stockton Police Department. Vincent Chavez, a 28-year-old, was taken into custody by the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop.On February 5, 2023, at approximately 2:16 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of W Fremont St after receiving reports of multiple people shot. A 42-year-old male victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Three additional adult victims were also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, stated the Stockton Police Department.Detectives have been working on the case since the incident occurred, conducting extensive follow-up investigations. Their efforts led to the identification of Chavez as a suspect. On December 14, 2024, Chavez was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for homicide, according to the department.The investigation remains ongoing, and the Stockton Police Department continues to seek information related to the case.
