Modesto Express Library is set open downtown in January. What you need to know

Stanislaus County will provide an Express Library downtown in Modesto — and will open the service next month with activities for families.

Community members can explore the Express Library at Tenth Street Plaza during a morning of festivities from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 6, a Monday.

Library officials will christen the library storefront at 10 a.m. If the weather cooperates, storytellers will hold a story time in the plaza at 10:30 a.m. The free public event will include other activities for children and refreshments while supplies last.

People of all ages can sign up for a Winter Reading Challenge, in which participants earn virtual tickets for an opportunity to win prizes.

The Express Library, at 1002 10th St. (former home of the Graffiti Dogs eatery), is an alternative location for library services while major renovations are done to the Modesto Library on I Street. The project, which closed the main library temporarily in late November, will make critical upgrades and add amenities to the building.
