San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees swears in Swanson, Wright, Piña, Valerio

Four new San Joaquin Delta College trustees were sworn in to office last week.

Three of the trustees — Area 1’s Shelly Stoll Swanson, Area 2’s Dan Wright, and Area 6’s Catalina Piña — joined the Delta College Board of Trustees after running successful campaigns in the Nov. 5 general election.

Area 1 comprises south Stockton and Weston Ranch, while Area 2 encompasses central Stockton, and Area 6 represents Mountain House and Tracy.

The fourth trustee, Area 5’s Armando Valerio, ran in the election uncontested. He was provisionally appointed to the board in May. Valerio was tapped to replace former Area 5 Trustee Kathleen Garcia, who resigned on March 27 amid a lawsuit filed by Delta College to remove her from her seat .

Area 5 is made up of eastern San Joaquin County, Calaveras County, and southeastern Sacramento County.

“I’d like to congratulate Trustees Wright, Swanson, Piña and Valerio, and to sincerely thank them for their willingness to serve Delta College and our students,” Delta College Superintendent Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson said. “The board of trustees plays a critical oversight role at Delta, and I look forward to working with all of our trustees as we tackle many important issues in the coming year.”
