Update: Coroner identifies pedestrian stuck by pickup truck just south of Turlock

Melody Valverde, 65, of Turlock was the person struck and killed by a pickup truck Dec. 23, the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said Friday.

It happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Harding Road east of Lander Avenue, just south of Turlock, the California Highway Patrol reported earlier. A news release said Valverde was walking in the roadway when she was hit by an eastbound 2015 GMC pickup driven by Emmanuel Silva, 69, of Turlock.

He remained at the scene and was not suspected of driving while impaired, the CHP said. Details were not available on why Valverde was walking on the rural road after dark.

The scene is about a quarter-mile south of a Dec. 15 collision that killed five people on Lander at Greenway Avenue.
