MERCED, California — An 18-year-old from Atwater was arrested following two high-speed pursuits involving a black sport motorcycle on December 28, according to the California Highway Patrol. The chases, which reached speeds of up to 150 mph, concluded with the suspect’s arrest in Keyes, Stanislaus County.The first pursuit spanned 37 miles and reached speeds of 130 mph before officers lost sight of the suspect in Madera County. Approximately an hour later, the motorcycle was spotted again on State Route 59, leading to a second pursuit covering 39 miles, stated the California Highway Patrol. Despite one unit dropping out due to a flat tire, coordination between air and ground units ensured the suspect was safely boxed in and taken into custody without further incident.The suspect now faces two felony counts of evading a peace officer. The California Highway Patrol emphasized the dangers of high-speed chases, noting that evading law enforcement endangers lives and leads to serious legal consequences. The agency expressed gratitude to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and their air support team for their assistance in resolving the situation safely.
