12-year-old boy seriously injured in bicycle crash in Salida

( FOX40.COM ) — The California Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Salida on Tuesday evening.

According to a press release from CHP, the incident occurred on Salida Blouvard and Broadway Avenue.

Officials said when crews arrived at the scene they found one boy lying in the roadway and the car had collision damages.

The 12-year-old boy was transported to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries, officials said.

CHP said that their investigation shows the boy was riding a bicycle in an easterly direction within or by the north crosswalk and attempted to cross Salida Boulevard on a red right.

The driver has been identified as Maria Torres 28-year-old woman who was driving a 2019 Acura northbound.

The bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
