Second California Horse Tests Positive for EIA

On March 18, one case of equine infectious anemia (EIA) in a 7-year-old Quarter Horse in San Joaquin County, California, was reported to the Equine Disease Communication Center. At that time, 28 exposed horses on the premises were placed under quarantine.

On March 20, one of those exposed horses—a 3-year-old Quarter Horse mare—also tested positive for EIA. The other horses have tested negative but will remain under quarantine until their retest in 60 days.
