Elementary school goes on lockdown after student threatens gun violence, Lathrop police say

Around 10:51 a.m., the Lathrop Police Department responded to Lathrop elementary school after an altercation between students. One of the students involved in the fight was reportedly mentioned they had a weapon.

Subsequently, the school was placed on lockdown while LPD investigated. A lockdown is a safety action on a school campus caused by the presence of an immediate threat on or near campus. During a lockdown, students and staff move to the nearest available room and lock the door, and no one is allowed to enter or exit the campus, according to school officials.

When officers arrived at the scene, they searched the student’s belongings and reportedly found an airsoft gun. The lockdown was lifted around 11:18 a.m…
