Barn fire in Stanislaus County claims lives of seven horses, two rescued

According to the West Stanislaus County Fire Protection District, the incident happened on the 200 block of Poppy Avenue in Patterson. When the first unit arrived at the scene, they found a barn with many haystacks that were caught on fire, which had extended into the second barn on Dahila Avenue.

The second barn had about 10 stacks of hay and nine horses, said WSCFPD. Two of the horses were rescued, but seven of them died in the fire. Residents from both properties remained unharmed.

Firefighters said the fire was under control and contained just after 10 p.m., and crews worked on putting out the remaining fire and hot spots throughout the night and into Friday morning…
