Police officers’ project rebuilding trust one room at a time in the Central Valley

MODESTO, Calif. — Modesto Police Officer Sean Dodge got into law enforcement to help people. It’s why he still suits up even though he could retire at any time, but his desire to do good goes beyond the job.

Dodge and his friend Mark Kirunchyk, a former officer with Hawthorne Police Department, often trade their handcuffs for hammers, building new rooms and relationships to help children in need across the valley.

“I feel like I’m making a difference at this point. I think the Healthy Room project is changing a lot of those views on law enforcement and again, to reflect back or put it back on the officers, it’s changing the officer’s view of the community too,” Dodge said…
