Thousands hit San Joaquin County rivers as deputies ramp up patrols for Memorial Day weekend

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — As Memorial Day weekend kicks off, thousands of people are heading to the rivers of San Joaquin County to jet ski, boat and sail. Alongside them, sheriff’s deputies are stepping up patrols to ensure safety on the water.

With lakes across the state seeing closures due to the invasive golden mussel species, local rivers are expected to be busier than ever.

“Now with most of the lakes closed due to the mussels, we’re expecting it to be even busier than in years past,” said Deputy John Canepa of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office…
