Large wildfire off Highway 99 in San Joaquin County prompts emergency response

(FOX40.COM) — Emergency crews are responding to a large wildfire that ignited along Highway 99 in San Joaquin County Sunday afternoon.• Video Above: Dangers of extreme heat

Around 12:26 p.m., Ripon Consolidated Fire District was at the scene of a large vegetation fire along southbound CA-99 at Jack Tone Road. Officials said CA-99 remains open, but traffic is heavily congested. Additionally, all on-ramps and off-ramps at Jack Tone Road were closed, but have since reopened. South Frontage Road, beneath the Jack Tone overpass, is also closed to all traffic.

Fire crews said to avoid traveling in this area until further notice.

As of 2:58 p.m., the fire was extinguished, but crews are expected to remain in the area for several hours to clean up. The southbound Jack Tone Road exit remains closed, but all other on-ramps and off-ramps at Jack Tone Road are open…
