Community members save homes from fire in Northern California amid lack of first responders

(FOX40.COM) — Community members in Northern California prevented several homes from catching fire as the local first responders tended to other emergencies, according to the Ripon Consolidated Fire District.• Video Above: What happens when you call 911?

Around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Ripon Fire was dispatched to a vegetation fire in a backyard that was threatening two homes. At the time, officials said all Ripon Fire units were already committed to other emergencies.

Additionally, the paramedic was in Stockton, transporting a patient to a local hospital, while the fire engine and Battalion Chief were responding to a vehicle accident north of town. Ripon Fire said it requested assistance from Manteca City Fire, but due to traffic, their response was delayed.

“Fortunately, two community members who saw the fire stepped in to help,” Ripon Fire said. “They quickly found a nearby garden hose and were able to contain the fire before it reached the homes.”…
