200 tons of hay burn near Oakdale. Crews keep flames from spreading

Firefighters from across Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties responded Wednesday morning to a large haystack fire on a rural property outside Oakdale.

The blaze was reported about 9:20 a.m. at 5954 Eleanor Avenue, just south of Highway 108, where workers had been preparing to bale loose chopped hay. The fire ultimately consumed about 200 tons of baled and loose hay, according to Modesto Fire Department Capt. Joe Spani.
