Stockton officials terminate Lathrop city manager’s consulting contract amid public scrutiny

Lathrop City Manager Stephen Salvatore is no longer serving as a consultant for Stockton, according to city officials.

The announcement came a month after news reports revealed that Interim City Manager Steve Colangelo — a longtime event planner and rental manager with no local government experience — hired Salvatore as a consultant just days after taking office. The hire was made without city council approval or competitive bidding. Salvatore was paid $11,000 a month for his services.

The city announced the termination of Salvatore’s contract in a June 19 news release, stating that the agreement was “designed to provide strategic guidance during Colangelo’s transition into the interim city manager role.”…
