A 48-year-old Newman man was convicted Friday of murder with a deadly weapon for the stabbing death of his girlfriend nearly seven years ago.
Christopher Torrez was found guilty of fatally stabbing 39-year-old Sonia Gonzalez on Nov. 21, 2018, during a confrontation in their Newman home.
The incident unfolded when Torrez, in a fit of rage, struck Gonzalez in the face, causing significant swelling and a laceration on her nose. After the initial attack, Torrez went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and returned to the front door, where Gonzalez was attempting to escape. He stabbed her seven times…
