Modesto Police to Conduct Covert DUI Checkpoint Tonight to Enhance Road Safety

The Modesto Police Department is gearing up to set a DUI checkpoint into motion tonight, with operations running from 8:00 pm to 3:00 am at a location they’ve chosen to keep under wraps. As disclosed by the Modesto Police Department through their official Facebook page, these checkpoints are a data-driven approach to catch and deter impaired drivers, who are seen as a significant threat to the safety of the public.

Data pinpointing areas with high incidences of DUI-related incidents have been instrumental in selecting the checkpoint’s location. The stakes are high, with Sergeant Robert Hall commenting, “Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk.” He added that measures like these to reduce the number of impaired drivers can significantly enhance road safety. The reminder also comes in to recognize that impairment isn’t solely due to alcohol—the law includes substances all ranging from prescription meds to marijuana, despite its legal status, as per the Modesto Police Department.
