Man catches attempted murder charge after lighting backyard on fire, Stockton police say

On Saturday, SPD responded to the 2500 Block of East Roosevelt Street in the Park District for reports of a fire. A 58-year-old man was inside his residence when the known suspect intentionally set fire to his backyard, according to SPD. When officers contacted the suspect in a nearby residence, he barricaded himself inside.

SPD said after several hours of negotiation, the suspect came outside but refused to obey commands. Subsequently, force was used to take the suspect into custody.
