2025 Obon Odori & Festival returns to the Buddhist Church of Stockton on Saturday

Japanese culture, live music and exhibits will once again return to Stockton for the 2025 Obon Odori & Festival.

The annual event kicks off from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Buddhist Church of Stockton at 2820 Shimizu Drive in Stockton.

“Obon is an annual Buddhist event for commemorating one’s ancestors, whose spirits are believed to temporarily return to this world in order to visit their relatives during Obon,” the Japan-guide.com website states. “Traditionally, lanterns are hung in front of houses to guide the ancestors’ spirits, obon dances (bon odori) are performed, graves are visited and food offerings are made at house altars.”…
