Around 5:32 p.m., the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Italian Bar Road near Columbia Springs Lane for a reported disturbance. The reporting party advised dispatch her estranged husband, Curtis Ray Hankins Sr., 54, was on the property and attempting to break into the residence.

The reporting party stated Hankins had not lived at the residence for several months and had arrived unannounced in his unmarked law enforcement vehicle and uniform, claiming he intended to move back in due to being unable to afford living expenses related to ongoing civil divorce proceedings. Hankins was listed as a deputy with Stanislaus County.
While TCSO deputies were on their way to the scene, the reporting party updated dispatch that Hankins had gained entry to the home. According to TCSO, Hankins gained entry by reaching through the door, and unlocking the door. After Hankins entered the residence, TCSO said the victim left to wait at a neighboring property.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they determined that Hankins had unlawfully entered the home. According to TCSO, the property was jointly owned by both parties, who are currently involved in civil proceedings regarding ownership and possession.
