(FOX40.COM) — The Stockton city manager’s office announced an internal investigation Monday after it claimed $50,000 in public funds from the city’s Risk Mitigation Fund were improperly used for an event introduced by Vice Mayor Jason Lee.
According to the city manager, Steve Colangelo, a sitting councilmember (Jason Lee), facilitated the use of $50,000 toward the event, Wild ‘N Out, without the necessary approval. Additionally, Colangelo said he has concerns about how Lee engaged with city staff and event promoters. He said lines between policymaking and administration may have been crossed.
Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out Live adds Stockton to comedy tour
Wild N’ Out is a sketch comedy and battle rap improv game show created and hosted by actor, artist, and comedian Nick Cannon. The show, which has aired on MTV and VH1, is filmed in front of a live audience. Lee, who has relationships with celebrities, including Nick Cannon, brought the show to Stockton on May 24.
“Let’s be clear, Nick and the Wild ’N Out team came to Stockton as a favor to ME—to turn this city up and prove that we deserve world-class partnerships like Nick, Rip Michaels, and 5120 Entertainment,” Lee said on social media. “The attacks on our hardworking city staff for simply doing their jobs? Beyond disappointing.”

Lee said he was made aware of the “conspiracy brewing” weeks ago, referring to the allegations. He said the city claims he brought Wild ’N Out to Stockton and influenced decisions so Nick Cannon, his friends, and himself could profit.
“To my haters, if you can’t outwork me in policy, opportunity, or inspiration, work harder,” Lee said. “Because making up lies to do reputational harm won’t work when I’ve got the heart of the people.”…
