NEWMAN, Calif. – Since 2020, Cherokee Nation citizen Channce Condit has acted as a public servant after being elected to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors in California.
“We oversee the county budget. All of the county taxes that folks pay out there will go to the county’s budget. We have about a $1.9 billion budget,” Condit said. “We oversee the roads, we oversee the sheriff’s department, we oversee the District Attorney’s office, behavioral health services, so on and so forth. We fund 27 departments with our county tax dollars … we vote on how to best fund county departments with folk’s county tax dollars.”
