Stanislaus County has seen a significant case come to a close, as District Attorney Jeff Laugero confirmed that a jury convicted Oregon resident Travis Matthews, 26, on charges of domestic violence, assault with force likely to produce great bodily harm, and for violating a restraining order. According to a social media post from the District Attorney’s Office, Matthews—who has a past marred by abuses against his partners—could face up to five years behind bars for his crimes.
An incident on October 13, 2025, spurred the conviction. The victim, amidst divorce proceedings with Matthews, visited his residence to collect personal items. A dispute over their child escalated, and as the victim tried to leave, Matthews seized her from behind in a headlock, causing her to fall and proceeded to strangle her.
