(FOX40.COM) — Law enforcement in Stockton is putting a new focus on cold cases by tripling the number of staff investigating them and offering cash rewards for eligible tips, according to the Stockton Police Department. • Video Above: Violent crime statistics
According to SPD, it added experienced investigators and resources to manage an increasing caseload. An investigations sergeant has also been appointed to oversee the operations of the cold case unit.

“This expansion demonstrates a dedicated commitment to justice, ensuring that every case, regardless of its age, receives the thorough investigation it deserves,” SPD said in part. “Every victim matters, and every family deserves answers. Our increased investment in the Cold Case Unit sends a clear message – we will pursue every available lead until we uncover the truth.”
SPD said it recently attended a meeting with families of cold case victims and other victims of violent crime. During the “emotional gathering,” department leadership and detectives provided case updates, listened to the families’ perspectives, and reaffirmed their shared mission to bring resolution and justice.
