A man who brutally stabbed someone to death in Stockton in 2021 has been convicted of first-degree murder and other crimes, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said.
On Sept. 24, 2021, James Victor Ortega, 36, assaulted a man in Stockton near El Dorado Street and Harding Way before breaking into a home on East Rose Street and getting into a physical fight with the home’s occupant, a 47-year-old man. Ortega attacked the man with a shovel, then stabbed him multiple times, leading to his death in a hospital sometime later, according to police.
