Drivers in Modesto should be on the lookout as the local police department is setting up a DUI checkpoint tonight, according to a recent social media announcement. Modesto Police Department will be running the checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. in an effort to screen for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The exact location, however, remains undisclosed, as is standard practice for such operations.
The checkpoints come with an understanding that roads are shared spaces, and when they are navigated by those who are impaired, they put the lives of others at risk.
