Stockton council sets new rules for ad hoc committees after tension over disbanded committee

The Stockton City Council will follow new rules for creating and disbanding council ad hoc committees after a summer of tension among councilmembers over a disbanded committee.

Ad hoc committees are temporary groups of councilmembers appointed by the mayor to address specific issues. They are established by the council, with appointments based on the expertise and expressed interest of the councilmembers. The terms of the ad hoc committees cannot exceed one year unless reestablished or extended by resolution of the council, according to the council policy manual.
