A three-vehicle crash involving a hay truck backed up traffic for miles Tuesday morning on southbound Highway 99 near Crows Landing Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Modesto spokesman Tom Olsen said officers received the call at about 7:29 a.m. A Nissan Frontier and a Chevrolet Silverado were traveling in the fast lane when they approached slow-moving traffic. The driver of the Chevy, going at an unsafe speed, swerved to avoid the Nissan but hit its rear before continuing into the middle lane, where it struck the back of a big rig hauling hay.
The impact caused the big rig to lose control and hit the center median, spilling bales of hay across the fast and middle lanes. No injuries were reported…
