San Joaquin Pumpkin Farmers Race Against Rain to Save Their Harvest

Farmers in San Joaquin County, one of the nation’s largest pumpkin-producing regions, are scrambling to bring in their crops before rain arrives early next week. With wet weather expected on Monday, pumpkin growers are working around the clock to prevent damage to their harvests.At Mora Produce in Lodi, the pumpkin patch is bustling as customers scoop up pumpkins and workers hurry to harvest what’s left in the fields. “I think this is one of our busiest years,” said one farm worker. “But it’s going to be a little hectic the next couple of days.”The Mora family has called in cousins and relatives to help, as heavy rain could delay harvesting for days. “It’s hard for us to go into the field when it rains,” said a family member. “The vehicles can get stuck in the mud, and we can’t bring the pumpkins out.”According to Andrew Janoski with the San Joaquin Farm Bureau, large commercial growers across the county are facing similar challenges. “Everyone’s working hard and heavy to get…..
