Sonora Man Seriously Injured After Falling Asleep on Highway 108/120

MODESTO, CA (October 17, 2025) — A 35-year-old Sonora man was seriously injured Friday morning when his Honda CR-V went off the roadway on State Route 108/120 east of Lancaster Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (Modesto Area Office).

CHP officials said the crash occurred around 8:43 a.m., when the driver, John Papapetrou, was heading eastbound on Highway 108/120. Investigators determined that Papapetrou fell asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to drift to the left and off the north shoulder of the road. The Honda struck a fence, became airborne, and came to rest on an ascending embankment.

Oak Valley Ambulance transported Papapetrou to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. CHP said he was wearing his seat belt at the time, which likely prevented more severe injuries…
