San Joaquin County Completes $50 Million Purchase of Downtown Stockton Office Building for Local Services

San Joaquin County has completed the $50 million purchase of the office building at 400 E. Main Street in downtown Stockton. Escrow closed on October 23, 2025. The Board of Supervisors approved the purchase in December 2023. The property includes a 245,551-square-foot building and a two-level underground parking garage. It covers a city block bordered by Main, Market, Sutter, and California Streets.

Board Chair Paul Canepa said that owning the building, instead of leasing, will help the County’s long-term finances. The building will house several County departments.
