Former interim city manager scrutinized over state grant letter for Stockton mayor’s donor

Vice Mayor Jason Lee is calling for another investigation into former Interim City Manager Steve Colangelo, alleging he sent an official city letter supporting a state grant without Stockton City Council approval that benefited one of Mayor Christina Fugazi’s campaign donors.

The letter dated June 30, which Lee said was sent on official city letterhead and copied to Fugazi, was addressed to Marlies Perez of the California Department of Health Care Services, who oversees the Bond BHCIP Round 1: Launch Ready grant.

“This letter serves as an official commitment from the city of Stockton confirming our intention to provide matching funds to support the Service First of Northern California Recovery Center project, located at 1005 North El Dorado Street, Stockton, California 95202, under the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Bond BHCIP Round 1: Launch Ready grant,” Colangelo said in the letter…
