Modesto councilmember calls for changes at Stanislaus Animal Services Agency

(FOX40.COM) — A Modesto city leader is calling for major improvements at the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency (SASA), saying more needs to be done to care for the region’s pets and strays.

City Councilmember Chris Ricci said the goal isn’t to shut down the shelter, but to make changes that better serve the community’s needs.

“There’s huge issues in Stanislaus County with feral cats. We don’t have a robust spay and neuter program. We need that,” said Ricci. “We don’t have a TNR program that’s trapped in a release. We don’t have a sufficient facility that handles veterinary needs at SASA. We have an issue with, you know, euthanization of dogs, and the list is very, very long.”…
