Life-saving precision: Robotic surgery transforming care at Trinity Health Livingston

Sharing is caring!

In this Q&A, Dr. Eric Davies, a general surgeon for Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, explains how robot-assisted surgery is transforming patient care at Trinity Health Livingston, the benefits of robotic surgery, and many of the exciting new features patients will see in 2026 at the newly constructed hospital in Brighton.

Q: What is the difference between traditional surgery and robot-assisted surgery?

Dr. Davies: A traditional laparoscopic surgery may be more challenging for the surgeon, as the visualization is limited to two dimensions and the instrumentation has limited range of motion. With robot-assisted technology, we can make smaller, more precise incisions, visualize tissue in three dimensions, and use updated instrumentation with improved range of motion, which often leads to less post-operative pain, as well as fewer scars and a reduced risk of complications. Patients also benefit from shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times…
