Suspected DUI driver flees on ATV in Winton, CHP says

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man on an ATV was arrested on a charge of DUI after fleeing from officers in Winton, the California Highway Patrol announced Saturday.

Officers reported after seeing a Yamaha ATV headed southbound on Winton Way, near Bobbie Avenue, they attempted to conduct an enforcement stop, as ATVs are not permitted on public roads.

A short pursuit followed after the rider took off; however, officers say it came to an end when he lost control along a canal bank and overturned.

Despite not wearing a helmet, CHP says the rider did not sustain any serious injuries, but was determined to be under the influence of alcohol…
